Miroslav Tichý (1926-2011)

I’m saddened to hear that Miroslav Tichý passed away last tuesday at the age of 84 in his hometown Kyjov.

I feel very fortunate to have worked on an exhibition that included his work last October. His photographs are idiosyncratic, as was his attitude towards his artistic career. His star will undoubtedly continue to rise, regardless of his own apathy towards his rising popularity.

After the jump is a trailer for Worldstar, a documentary about Tichý by Nataša von Kopp. The film raises a lot of questions about the exposure his work is getting, as well as giving great insight into his personality and lifestyle. A great film about a fascinating, unintentional superstar.

I’ve also included some other videos/documentary excerpts, some of his images and photos I took of the installation of his work in The Hague Museum of Photography.
